The major fatty acids include linoleic acid (omega-6), alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Omega-3 fatty acids are important for many things including healthy skin by maintaining cellular fluidity. These fatty acids also reduce inflammation associated with dry skin. The B vitamins, which include thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pantothenic acid (B5), biotin (B7), and vitamin B12 and folate, are essential to maintaining skin health. They not only help convert carbs into energy needed to power your workouts but they’re also needed for a number of chemical reactions in your body. Including the breakdown of fats that help keep your blood flowing freely.
Alpha Hydroxy Acid
A type of acid that exfoliates skin and makes it appear tighter. In some cases, alpha hydroxy acids can improve skin hydration. There are several types of alpha hydroxy acids, including glycolic acid, lactic acid, and mantellic acid. People with sensitive skin or who have a history of atopic dermatitis should not use AHA products containing glycolic acid or salicylic acid.
The body is 60% water and can experience negative effects from dehydration, such as dry skin. One way to keep your skin hydrated is by consuming at least eight glasses of water per day. This will help make sure you’re getting enough essential acids into your system without dehydrating yourself.
