Formal negotiations between Pakistan and the IMF begin today; according to the Ministry of Finance, the IMF delegation has arrived in Islamabad.

The Finance Minister and the economic team will participate in the talks, which will focus on data up to June 30.

Pakistan will provide briefings on the Sovereign Wealth Fund and measures to reduce circular debt, and will explain the reasons for not deregulating the sugar sector.

The mission has already held talks with State Bank officials and the Sindh government in Karachi.

According to sources, the Sindh government reported that it has provided the federal government with the budgeted surplus as targeted.

State Bank officials also briefed the IMF mission, and the IMF expressed satisfaction with the information provided.
